The Biology Ph.D. program received the 2019 Dean’s Award for Inclusive Excellence in Graduate Education. It gave me a year to focus on my skills in bioinformatics and computational biology and to hone my specific research interests before beginning my Ph.D. Through the program, I spent a year splitting my time between learning, teaching, and conducting research, which helped convince me that I would be comfortable continuing to learn, teach, and conduct research during my Ph.D. and beyond. These Institutes bring faculty from Biology and other departments with biological interests into contiguous lab space.
The work of our faculty and students covers all levels of biological organization and a variety of biological systems and model organisms. The curriculum for majors covers modern biology from molecules and cells through organisms, populations, and ecosystems, and emphasizes the conceptual, historical, and technical progression of biological science. 6. Cell Biology: It is the study of morphological, organizational, biochemical, physiological, genetic, developmental, pathological and evolutionary aspects of cell and its components.
Physiology is the study of the mechanical, physical, and biochemical processes of living organisms function as a whole. Cell Theory: There are three parts to cell theory — the cell is the basic unit of life, all living things are composed of cells, and all cells arise from pre-existing cells. In addition to subject-specific skills, biology graduates develop valuable transferable skills such as data analysis, communication, teamwork and time management.

The American Journal of Human Biology is cascaded with the sound science open access journal Molecular Genetics & Genomic Medicine. Being broad – based and multi- disciplinary, the term biology is often replaced by the term life sciences or biological sciences. Biological sciences encompass a broad area of specialist subjects linked to the study of living organisms and the science behind ‘life’.
The fourth year consists of an extended project, which can be lab or field based, plus advanced research skills training. A popular branch of molecular biology involves the study of DNA, with the goal of sequencing or mutating it in order to study the effects and possibilities of these processes. On this module you’ll attend lectures, practical classes and workshops and take part in fieldwork study and guided independent study.
